Boost mechanics
Boost is a Koin-bid auction for labeled sponsored rank in the Kariant discovery grid and its embedded KlickChat recommendations. Here is exactly how the auction, the caps, current reach, and auto-defend work.
The auctionlink
Boost runs as an auction funded in Koins, with three bid modes: CPM (per thousand impressions), CPC (per click), and CPA (per action). Your bid competes with other partners’ bids, weighted by relevance — an irrelevant listing cannot simply outbid its way into placement.
The auction is first-price: when your boost serves, you pay your effective bid (base bid plus any locked auto-defend surcharge) — not a discounted rate pegged just above the next-highest bid. The console shows the highest competing bid per format so you can bid with open eyes, and you pay only for real engagement in your chosen mode: impressions served, clicks made, or actions completed.
The two-slot cap and labelinglink
Sponsored presence is deliberately constrained: at most two sponsored placements per six-result segment, the Sponsored label is granted only for the segment your budget actually paid for, and every sponsored slot is labeled as such. Organic citations continue alongside — Boost adds labeled slots; it never rewrites or replaces the organic answer.
Current reach: the discovery grid, signed-inlink
Boost reaches the Kariant discovery grid and the KlickChat recommendations embedded on it — the only surfaces that consume a boost rank today. Standalone KlickChat, KlickLive, Kurator, and other AI answer surfaces rank organically and never serve a bid. Delivery additionally serves signed-in visitors only — logged-out browsing always sees purely organic results and is never billed. Guest reach is planned as part of the distribution rollout; until it ships, impression and click counts reflect signed-in discovery-grid traffic, so they will read lower than your page-view analytics. The same disclosure appears in the Boost console.
Auto-defend and the surchargelink
Auto-defend keeps your position without babysitting the auction: when a competitor outbids you, auto-defend raises your bid to hold the slot, up to your limit. Defended wins carry a surcharge on top of the base clearing price — the price of automation — so manual bidders are never structurally outgunned. Configure it per campaign with a hard ceiling.

Frequently asked questions
Can Boost put me in every AI answer?expand_more
No — twice over. Boost only reaches the discovery grid and its embedded chat recommendations (standalone AI answer surfaces rank organically), and within that reach sponsored placements are capped at two per six-result segment and gated by relevance. Boost accelerates a relevant listing; it cannot force an irrelevant one.
Why are my impressions lower than my listing views?expand_more
Sponsored delivery currently reaches signed-in visitors only; logged-out traffic sees organic results and is never billed. Guest reach is planned — your reporting will note when it activates.
Will buyers know my slot is sponsored?expand_more
Yes — every Boost slot is labeled. That transparency is what keeps AI answers trusted, which is what makes the slots valuable.
What exactly does auto-defend cost?expand_more
Defended wins pay the auction price plus a surcharge for the automation. Your configured ceiling is always respected — auto-defend never bids past it.
